Oil and Cold Wax
About
I enjoy using Cold wax medium (CWM) and oil paint in much of my work. CWM, a soft paste made primarily from beeswax, solvent, and resin, when combined with oil paint creates body, depth, translucency, and texture that are difficult to achieve with traditional oil paint alone. It is applied with a variety of unconventional tools and techniques facilitating the ability to build multiple, luminous layers that can be scraped, incised, rubbed back, and rebuilt, revealing glimpses of the layers beneath and the history of the painting as it develops. Unlike encaustic medium, cold wax does not require heat to melt or fuse the wax. The medium encourages experimentation and is particularly well suited to abstraction, mark-making, and richly worked surfaces.

Series
Distinct bodies of work within oil and cold wax.

Inside Out
The sereis, "Inside Out", considers what lies beneath the surface and what happens when the internal becomes visible. Through layers of oil and cold wax, forms emerge, disappear, connect, and reappear—suggesting elements of the body, landscape, and the structures that surround us.
